What is The Sloth Protection Alliance?
The Sloth Protection Alliance is a coalition led by The Sloth Conservation Foundation (SloCo) and The Sloth Institute (TSI) with the goal to keep sloths wild. This coalition was created in early 2026 in response to the mass sloth deaths linked to maltreatment at Sloth World Orlando–a horrific event that exposed a much larger problem in the United States: a system that facilitates the transfer of wild-caught sloths from South and Central America to the States for commercial use and entertainment. A system that kills roughly 80-90% of the sloths in the process.
The Sloth Protection Alliance is currently fighting for A Permanent Ban on Wild Sloth Imports, Stronger Sloth Welfare Protections, An End to Hands-On Sloth Encounters, A New Sensitive Species Classification, and Transparency and Accountability.

How does your donation help The Sloth Protection Alliance?
The Sloth Institute and Sloth Conservation Foundation are two non-profits with small staff who work overtime to care for sloths and advocate for wildlife conservation. With a campaign this huge, their teams are working harder than ever and rely on our donations to move the work forward!
The coalition hopes to raise roughly $30,000 to cover the costs of the following:
- Legal consultations
- Policy development
- Travel to meet with lawmakers and wildlife agencies
- Public records requests and investigative work
- Scientific and technical consultation
- Sequencing the genomes of the surviving sloths to identify where they were captured from in the wild
