This spring season, Shop Sir Bean will raise money for

Sloth Speedways with
The Sloth Institute

5-7% of all shop profits from Shop Sir Bean between January 12th 2024 and May 20th 2024 will be donated to The Sloth Institute's sloth speedway project.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A PARTNERSHIP. SIR BEAN THE SLOTH HAS NO CURRENT AFFILIATION WITH THE SLOTH INSTITUTE. SIR BEAN IS RAISING MONEY FOR TSI SIMPLY BECAUSE WE WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE PEOPLE WHO DEDICATE THEIR LIVES TO HELPING SLOTH CONSERVATION!

What is The Sloth Institute?

The Sloth Institute (TSI) is a sloth rescue and research center based in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. Their work "focuses on enhancing the welfare and conservation of sloths through the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of [orphaned] and injured sloths.

TSI does a LOT of work for the sloth community including, building "sloth speedways" to help sloths cross safely between patches of forest; collaborating with scientists to research behavior and biology of sloths; creating sloth tracking systems to further enhance research on sloth's natural behaviors; rescuing, rehabilitating, and treating orphaned and injured sloths to help them back into the wild; and educating people about sloth conservation through training programs and advocating for responsible sloth tourism!

What are Sloth Speedways?

Sloth Speedways are a way to help sloths cross areas of deforestation/urban areas, such as roads or dangerous power line areas. Due to the growing urbanization of Costa Rica, sloths are having a more difficult time traveling from different patches of forest to mate and reach food. Because of deforestation and urbanization, sloths are forced to climb down from the trees and crawl across streets (which is VERY unnatural for them. Their bodies were not meant to crawl distances on the ground like this) or risk traveling across very poorly insulated power lines. Death by car or electrocution from power lines has increased exponentially through the years. To combat this, sloth conservation groups, like TSI, work to create safe, rope pathways for sloths and other arboreal animals to travel safely.

This season, Shop Sir Bean is raising money to help build a sloth crossing!
